Thay Pagoda is one of famous attractions in Ha Tay Province, 30km southwest of
Hanoi.
It is also known as Thien Phuc Pagoda dedicated to Thich Ca Budha, Sakyamuni and
18 arhats.
Thay Pagoda (The Master's Pagoda) Built in the 11th century during the reign of
King Ly Nhan Tong,
Thay Pagoda consists of three sections: the outer part for offerings
and ceremonies, the middle part for worship of Buddha and the inner part for worship
of the monk Tu Dao Hanh, the master after whom the pagoda is named.
In front of
the pagoda is a small stage built on stilt in the middle of Long Tri Pond. It is
the place where water puppet performances are held during festivals from the fifth
until the seventh days of the third lunar month.
Interesting sites can be visited
outside the main pagoda are Phat Tich and Cac Co Caves (a steep 10-minute climb).
Travel Tips: It is possible to combine this trip with Tay Phuong Pagoda. But please dress modestly
and respectfully once visiting temples and pagodas. Also bring hat, sunglasses and
easy walking shoes.
